Principal Investigator: Dr. Prasanta K Subudhi (vita)
Dr. Subudhi is directing the Coastal Plants Genetics Laboratory at the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center. He brings with him knowledge and experience on molecular marker-assisted breeding, genome mapping, and genomics of two important grass species rice and sorghum. His current research interests are germplasm characterization, DNA fingerprinting in coastal plant species, genetics of salt tolerance in halophytes (Spartina spp.), micropropagation of sea oats (Uniola paniculata), and genomics of weediness in red rice. The ultimate goal of his research projects is to apply newly developed genetics and genomics tools to develop improved wetland plant materials with improved adaptation, survival, and productivity for utilization in coastal restoration and reclamation projects.

Postdoctoral Researcher: Dr. Niranjan Baisakh (vita)
Niranjan joined the laboratory in July 2004 to work on the transcriptomics of Spartina alterniflora for understanding the molecular basis of its unusually high salt tolerance. His main research focuses on isolation of the genes from Spartina for salt tolerance, and to genetically engineer model crop species to translate their expression toward development of salt tolerant field crop(s) including rice. Besides, he is also involved in developing the technology of the somatic embryogenesis and nodal culture in sea oats grass for large scale micropropagation for the coastal plants restoration program.

Postdoctoral Researcher: Dr. Arnold Parco (vita)
Arnold joined the Coastal Plants Genetics Laboratory in June 2007 to work on the molecular basis of weedy attributes in red rice and salt tolerance in Spartina alterniflora.

Graduate Student : Mr. Hanamareddy Biradar

Hanamareddy joined the Coastal Plants Genetics Laboratory in fall 2007 as a Ph.D. student. He is working on a research project to develop rice with improved salinity tolerance using genes from smooth cordgrass (Spartina alterniflora).

Visiting Researcher : Ms. Teresa De Leon (Vita)

Teresa joined the Coastal Plants Genetics Laboratory in February 2008 as a visiting researcher. She will research on the molecular basis of weedy attributes in red rice and salt tolerance in Spartina alterniflora
